Day 5…

Exhausted but happy.  We definitely had a few times today that were two steps back & one step forward.  Thankfully we went with Gladney as our adoption agency & we can call them if we are having struggles.  So we called them :),  our oldest boys are struggling with following directions & then they shut down for a few hours after.  They will bounce back but any thing that doesn´t go their way for the rest of the day pushes them to react incredibly quickly.  We are also dealing with LOTS of sibling competition, LOTS!  We are doing our best to love on each child & make sure that we love them all equally.  We are so thankful for our caseworker who gave us some great tools & ready for another day.  Still pretty exhausted, we counted & we played with our kids for 12hrs today non-stop.

Fun things from today:

Our kids are doing great working as a family.  We all made breakfast together this morning, the two oldest cooked eggs & potatoes con Papi & our next two helped Mami cut & de-seed grapes, while baby girl stood nearby getting grapes from her brothers.  It was not a fancy meal but it did involve all 7 of us.  Best part was when our oldest daughter said, “This is a delicious meal because we made it with love.”  I know, made my heart warm too. 🙂

My youngest son is Mr. Vanity & Mr. Clean.  Every night after his shower he wants me to hold him up so he can check his hair.  If his clothing don´t match there is a little bit of complaining that ensues.  But he lines up all of our shoes neatly at the door, keeps his toys in order & takes great care in helping Mami clean up the water that spills every time we try to fill up our water bottles.

Baby girl has gotten the nickname Darth.  Yes after Darth Vader, she is an incredibly deep breather all of the time & you can hear her coming from a mile away.

Our oldest girl lost a tooth today & in Colombia they don´t have a tooth fairy but instead a rat that comes & takes the tooth & leaves a small present or money.  So we are keeping this tradition alive in our house.  We put her tooth in a ziploc bag along with a slice of cheese for the rat & placed it under her pillow.  Wonder if she´ll be curious why a Colombian rat brings her an American quarter?

Sorry for the short post but right now the couch is calling my name!

Our oldest 2 doing a great job cooking breakfast with love

Oh Darth, this girl loves to swing

Swinging with Mami, we use this time to play ¿where is my hija?

Frisbee con Papi, ended up in a sibling fight because our oldest thought that his brother got the frisbee one more time than he did. We´ll try again tomorrow.

A new park praise the Lord, we have found 3 parks in our area & we go between them ALL DAY!!

Dying to show you their precious faces, hopefully soon!

At the dinnermesa,

You both are so amazing! What a gift you are to these children God has hand picked for you. It has been such a blessing to read about your daily journey together. Dan wants to know how you have time to write. LoL. I will continue to pray for you all. Keep the stories coming! Can hardly wait to meet all of them. Love you in Jesus

  2. Praying for you today, for sweet rest in the night and refreshment daily from the Word. You are doing a wonderful job learning the intricacies of parenting! I am very familiar with both children who act out (in rebellion) and children who shut down after correction. It took me so long to see beyond the behaviors to the heart issues (fear, pride, shame, anger, more fear, desperation) and to respond in a way that helped the child know I was trying to restore them to a safe place. I wish I could have about a million do-overs (!!!) and I’m thankful for the grace I have received from my children. It sounds like you are doing a great job seeing their hearts and responding in compassion and nurture! Praying for you and your family!

  3. Your post is the highlight of my day. If I feel like I can’t do one more thing, I think of the Nichols family and I forge ahead. Praying for you as you navigate the coming days, loving your children, and adding new parenting tools to those you’ve already learned!

“Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.” (Hebrews 4:15-16 The Message)

I am also ready to see the faces, but understand the need to respect the “rules.” You guys will be complete pros at this parenting thing when you return, and the prayers that are going up for you guys will surely sustain you for this time in another country. More prayers coming!!
